FIRE + FOLK
Hi! I’m Heather, the founder and maker behind FIRE + FOLK. I hope to bring a little Pacific Northwest magic into your home through beautifully scented candlelight, while sparking moments of warmth, joy, and cozy connection.
I’m a disabled LGBTQ+ candlemaker and have handcrafted pure soy candles for more than a decade. I’m also an intersectional activist, and I donate $1 from every candle sold to local organizations and mutual aid groups that uplift our community.
As someone who battles 6 autoimmune diseases (including a rare and disabling neurological disorder) it was important to me that any fragrance in our home be clean, safe, and non-toxic. After all, many commercial candles and fragrances are full of petroleum by-products, phthalates, endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, and more. So, more than a decade ago, I set out on a mission to learn and perfect the art and science of handcrafting clean, non-toxic, and vegan soy candles. I’ve been obsessed with the process ever since!
STUDIO PLAYLIST: I love listening to music while pouring candles! Some of my favorites are Fink, GoGo Penguin, Mayyadda, Tommy Guerrero, Warpaint, Aurora, Taylor McFerrin, Khruangbin, Loyle Carner, Alt-J, and Puscifer.
PNW LIFE: When I’m not in the studio, you’ll find me wandering in the woods petting moss and poking mushrooms, relaxing at the coast, dancing to live music, enjoying local veggie food with friends, making art, watching movies, and adventuring with my love, Chris, and our rescued pittie, Juniper. I also volunteer and organize within our community.
AWARDS + RETAIL SHOPS: I’m proud to have been voted Best Candles in Portland by Willamette Weekly, and that my handcrafted candles + body butters are stocked in more than 35 indie retail shops across the country!
MY FAVORITE SCENTS: At home, I’m usually burning Fireside Embers, Moonflower, Northern Lights, Pacific Forest, Vanilla Bourbon, or Woodlands. I’m also obsessed with Forest Bathing, Marionberry, and Sunbloom from our spring/summer collection as well as Cinnamon Chai, Festive Forest, and Winter Solstice from our fall/winter collection.
